It is 25 years since the Northridge earthquake (magnitude 6.7) claimed 57 lives and injured more than 8 thousand people in Los Angeles. But the quake, on January 17, 1994, may pale in magnitude compared with the expected 'big one' - a massive event that scientists say is long overdue on the San Andreas fault.
